Will rattling work on deer in Payson in January?

I want to get them into bow rangeWill rattling work on deer in Payson in January?
It will be somewhat effective if done properly. Unlike other cooler states, in Arizona our rut is in Dec and Jan. Try it but know that when you rattle bucks they come ';Looking'; for the fight and are on alert. Movement on your part may be seen before you see the buck so concealment is important. They will come from any direction so make sure you have a full field of view. Once they are close follow up with a grunt call to get them closer without rattling.

Good luck! Will rattling work on deer in Payson in January?
Well, I've never been bow hunting out of WI. In WI I've been bow hunting for years...I've used rattling pre-rut and rut time which for us is Sept into Nov. This is the time when bucks are more likely to be sparing which is what you are trying to copy and gain a bucks curiousity. In the years I've hunted I've been out during second season which for us goes to the new year. Bucks tend to start losing their antlers in Dec. so the likelyhood of them sparing is low. Best bet would be to just try patterning the deer and hunting off of well used trails to get a buck in bow range. Just concentrate on your placement versus the wind direction and the direction the deer are traveling.
I would say no. You can't ';get'; them into bow range. You have to get yourself into bow range. Sit 20 yards off of a highly used trail and wait. Find feeding areas and bedding areas and wait in a tree. Hunt the afternoon and try and get 100 yards from the bedding area 20 yards off the trail. AND WAIT!

Rattling will get a buck's interest any time of the year but obviously best during the rut. It can be over done so but you can draw them in with moderate activity.
You could try it, but I think it would not be productive.* The best way to find out is to do it and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained or lost.*
