What is the best all around deer rifle/gun?

In the US, it's the .30-06. More available ammo and choices of any other caliber. What is the best all around deer rifle/gun?
Personally I think the 30-06 is the best deer cartridge in a traditional way, especially for bolt action;followed by the 30-30,a classic cartridge in a lever action gun. These two cartridges have probably taken more deer than the rest combined. The 30-30 lever action is considered a close in brush gun and effective to 150 yards, while the 30-06 is considered a long range choice. The 30-06 has always been my favorite cartridge for shooting and reloading, and since it comes in so many loading options it is much more flexible than most offerings. Since i hunt in areas with mixed terrain, I could get shots from 30 feet to 400 yards, and the 30-06 fits those needs. I also hunt elk so the 30-06 serves double duty.

If I were looking at a new rifle specifically for deer I might choose something different than 30 caliber these days. The 7 x 57 Mauser/257 Roberts is an excellent choice for deer only, along with 6.5 x 55 Swede,25-06. The 270 is probably the ';best'; deer only cartridge I can think of,followed by the 7mm-08. Both of these provide enough knock-down power and ballistic performance for deer. Using the right bullet and making a good shot placement goes along with choosing the right caliber, but there are so many choices for deer from 243 to 35 Whelen to 45-70 lever actions you would be hard pressed to find a bad choice.

Bolt actions have more inherent accuracy on average than lever, semi-auto or break style single shot rifles;so I concentrate on the better bolt type cartridges, that and having 400 yard capabilities means lever actions won't work for my hunting applications. What is the best all around deer rifle/gun?
* A lot of hunting cartridges have come and gone since the 30-06 Springfield was born more than 100 years ago, but not a single one does it all as well as the Grand Old 30-06.*...The 30-06 has been the most popular big-game cartridge among not only American Hunters, but among Hunters Worldwide.*.. As a matter of fact the 30-06 probably never will be excelled as an all-around Rifle for American Game, and some African Big Game Animals.* The 30-06 has a large variety of loads, and bullet weights to choose from.* At last count more than 60 different loads.* The 30-06 has been chambered in more Hunting Guns than any other cartridge, it continues to be the most widely used Big-Game Hunting Cartridge the World over.*
i would have to say a 30-06 or .270, they both have sufficient power at short ranges and very flat shooting so you can hit your target at longer distances. both can double as a elk and moose gun. the two others that have proven themselves over the years are the 30-30 and .243 the 30-30 is not greatly powerful but will take good sized deer at 150 yards and in. the .243 is very flat shooting, very powerful, very fast, very versatile round. load it with 100 grain bullets for deer and 60 grains for rabbits and 80 grains for everthing in between and my last choice would be a 7mm Remington Mag, capable of elk and deer size game. very accurate very flat shooting. those are my choices for deer in that order.

Happy Hunting
This is the most talked about topic at all deer camps. Which is better the .270 WIN. or the 30-06. I personally have a .270, but I know a lot of people who shoot 30-06. I think one of the most under appreciated guns is the .280 WIN., the most over rated is the 30/30.
A 12-gauge shotgun would be a good choice.
I would personally take a 270. win
