How do you kill ticks on a small dog. these are small deer ticks.?

The usual way to remove ticks is to use the lit end of a cigarette as ticks cannot stand the heat, but you have to be very very careful not to harm the dog in the process, I am not sure of any other way to remove them. How do you kill ticks on a small dog. these are small deer ticks.?
There is a tick-free collar found in your local pet store, medicine (ask you vet for recommendations, before you try any) or those tick-free food. CONSULT A VET BEFORE TRYING ANY OF THESE!How do you kill ticks on a small dog. these are small deer ticks.?
Rubbing alcohol. Swab the tick with a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol, then mark with a marker where the tick was and take the dog to the vet.
put the dog in an insecticide dip for fleas and ticks--wait a few days and then have the dog cked by a vet to make sure you killed all of them
you need to remove all the ticks. If you do not have a tick remover. looks like a plastic spoon with a v in it. then use your fingers. Make sure you get all of the tick. spray the dog with frontline flea and tick . Because it is a small dog such as I have and have had problems with the drops use the spray bottle. If any of the ticks give you a problem you can also use a match. light the match blow it out and place the hot tip on the tick. it should back out of your dog. But you should also have your dog checked for lyme by your vet incase you need antibotics. Hope this helps you. I really hate ticks.

If ticks are a problem in your area and you can't find the tick remover go to jefferspets.com I just ordered a 3 pack.
Oiy, using the hot match can be harmful. It can actually kill the tick with the head still inside. Never touch the tick with it, just hold it very close.

Using mineral oil to smother them does work, but can take a bit of time.

Using a needle you can pop it off, only if you can get the needle between the tick's pincers.

I have found deer ticks on my dobe before and we live in the desert. Always use a protectant, like a spray.
get a tick remover from pet shop or vets its safer than pulling out with hands. i used to use vaseline smother the tick with it and it has to come out pull off then and treat wound with antiseptic cream. best way though is tick pulle,r its plastic and shaped like the end of a claw hammer
Get a pair of tweezers and pull each tick off. Being that they are so small you'll probably leave the head on the dog. Place a dap of antibiotic cream or ointment on each area that you took the tick off. You can't leave the ticks on the dog if one is infected with Lyme then your dogs chances of getting it is greatly increased by leaving the ticks on the dog.

Dispose of the ticks! I just flush them.

If with in the next week or 2 if your dog shows any sign of illness get it tot he vets to have a Lyme check done.

I live in a prime Lyme disease area!
Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.

You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.
If there are more than 5 ticks, then go to a vet just to make sure there is no lyme disease etc. My lab loves going running in the bushes and he always get ticks. Take a credit card and put the edge on the skin and push as deep as you can. Dont squish or pull the tick or the head will stay in and it may lead to a disease or infection!
