I suggest that you buy a .30-30 lever action rifle. This is an introductory deer cartridge. I bought a used one (a Marlin 336) with a Simmons scope for $250. This is probably the best option.
One other thing to consider is buying a shotgun. You can get a Remington 870 Express at Wal-Mart for $280. Everyman needs a good shotgun. You can then shoot slugs out of it for deer. You can even buy combo guns from Mossberg which is cheaper and then put a red dot scope on it for that price range. You can get a Mossberg Maverick 12 gauge from Wal-Mart for $165 or a better Mossberg 500 model for $200. A 20 gauge would be good for a smaller young person.
You could buy a Mossberg or Remington 12 guage and use slugs. I bought my Winchester 30/30 from a guy at a gun show for 250 bucks, which some guys think is the ultimate deer gun. My suggestion would be to find a local gun show and scout for some great deals. Make sure you bring a bore light (flashlight) to look down the barrel of the gun to check for rust. If it has any rust don't buy it. The Big 5 sporting goods near me has been having sales on refurbished Russian military rifles, the M44, the M91 and the 8mm Mauser. They are selling those for 90 to 100 bucks. The sale rotates every week. You could definitely kill a deer with one of those.

you need more money but you could buy and buretta shotgun or a cheap remington
With that kind of budget you need to shop around.
I would try and find a used bolt action Savage in 308 or 30-06 for with those 2 calibers you can hunt any big game in North America with out any trouble.
The 308 has less kick to the shooter and does a fine job of a 1 shot kill on any North America big game.
I buy a lot of used guns from time to time just to save the money and get some really good deals.
For on most used rifles the are already set up with a quality scope and mounts.
For if you buy a new rifle you will need to also buy a scope and mounts and that even more money.
I bought one cheap H%26amp;R single shot 30-30 for $125.00, I did not wont the rifle I wonted the $250.00 scope and $90.00 mounts that were made by Leupold and had a life time warranty.
You can get a really good deal if you shop around now at pawn shops and gun shops.
Why now because deer season is over and that is when you wont to buy a deer rifle for the prices are the highest just before and during deer season, this is the off season now they will sell the rifle much cheaper.
And Savage is an inexpensive brand but a very good brand.
You can always trade up to a bigger name brand later, that if you don鈥檛 get hocked on Savage as many people do, and that not a bad thing for I have owned several and all were fine rifles.
The 30-30 lever actions some times sell higher because so many people like them.
But the bole action will out shoot the lever action in accuracy every time.
Also the 308 and 30-06 is a much better round in range and performance.

Any gun will kill a deer. It just all depends on where you shoot it and how far you shoot it from. If you plan on huntin in a field, i recommend the 243. Remington rifle. It is a fairly cheap gun and may shoot a long way. If you want power, if ou can find one, i recommend a 308. Remington rifle. It has alot of power and velocity. Whichever gun you choose, just remember i all depends on the skill of the shooter and bullet placement, not all on power.
If you are shooting 30 yards or less a shotgun. 12 GA Remington or Winchester.
you can get a good single shot rifle or shot gun you can even mount a scope on it trust me it will kill a deer dead just as good as a 1000 dollar rifle,its not always the gun but the shooter that counts
Try a Winchester .30-30. They are good quality rifles. Winchester's are reasonably priced and will kill a deer with open sights at a couple hundred yards. Hope this helps.
In answer to your question, almost any gun will kill a deer. Shot placement and energy at impact are the keys. As you are asking to prepare to hunt, though, you would want to choose one that is legal according to game laws (the 22 will not be (unless it is a 220 swift centerfire)). Follow the instruction you learned in the hunter's education course, and you can call or write the game and fish for your state with any questions. Wildlife agents can assist your individual situation, and they are not trying to sell you anything. While hunting, make sure you have an adult with you (also probably required by your state) both for instruction and safety. Always remember - ALL GUNS ARE LOADED - With this in mind, a shotgun is an appealing choice as it can be used for other pursuits (small game and skeet, trap, etc.), but be sure you know what is legal and do some more research before you get your parents to the store. I recommend a gun that fits (perhaps a youth model?) and a gauge that does not recoil more than you want to tolerate. A light shotgun with a magnum load can really kick you! If the recoil is very much, flinching problems may arise. Once you have it, practice with supervision before going hunting to get used to it. Good Luck!
New England Firearms makes a really nice single shot centerfire rifle,,4 members of our hunting camp use them,,you can get it in any caliber you want,,243,30-30, 270,,280,,7mm-08,,308,,30-06 and other cal. Its a very well built reliable gun,,you can get it brand new and put a reasonable scope on it for under 300.00,,,I have one in a 7mm-08,, which uses the same bullet as the 280 and the 7mm Mag. only with a 308 casing. And I have taken quite a few deer with it as well as the other members of our camp with their's. Hope this helps
Don't let the single shot deter you,,Helps you make the first shot count,,(one shot ,,one kill) but they can be reloaded really quickly if you need a second shot,,,,,
Just about any gun will kill a deer with the right person on the back side of it. A 22 in the ear will kill one just as dead as the latest big bad magnum that will cut one in half.
Remington makes the model 710 in a variety of calibers. It comes with a scope and is a fine weapon for the price. Ask knowledgable freinds and relatives since they are the ones who will teach you the finer points of shooting hunting and most importantly, firearm safety. Good luck next season.
well break action shotgun or rifle will be the least expensive way to go but your only going to get 1 maybe 2 shots off plus they just aren't very fun to shoot I wouldn't get a shotgun for deer hunting they have great killing power but you'd be hard pressed to hit the deer with one don't get me wrong you can hit stuff with them but they just aren't the type of gun i like to hunt deer with go with savage and don't get anything smaller than a 243 I'd stay in the 30 cal range i have a savage 308 bolt action and you can peg stuff with that thing except by the time your done scope etc. its going to be about 500 dollars
just go to your local pawn shop and purchase the best looking most affordable 30-30 you can find. I have hunted with gun that cost less than $150 that shot just a good as one that cost over 1000. just stick with a 30-30. low recoil, heavy bullet cheap price.
Any tweleve gauge shotgun wiil do. They also have deer rifles but they are expensive. Get a scope, definately helps. Watch out the twelev guage produces one H--- of kick when fired.
1) most U.S. States ( if not all) you, at 14 cant buy the gun.
2 ) find out if where you hunt it is legal to use a rifle or if its shotgun only. If its shotgun only, are slugs allowed?
3) For the most part, .22 rifles are NOT legal for big game hunting. Legal being the key word, because a well placed .22 can kill a deer.
4) After doing this research, go to a sporting goods store and look at what you can afford that meets all requirements.
Now, a shotgun with buckshot is good for close shots. 50 yards and in. Yes, I know there will be someone that says up to 100 yards, it can happen, but it is a miss more often then a kill at that distance. Shotgun with slugs will get you out to 125 or so. Again, longer is possable, up to 200 with a scope and practice. A good center fire rifle, if able to use where you hunt ,will cover further ground. Should be something in any group that fits you price range. Happy Hunting

With your price range, I'd go for a Mossberg 500 in 12 GA. I think the combo package (both rifled barrel and 28'; smooth bore) is still in the $250 range. Check the sales at ***** Sporting Goods.
The nice part about going this route, is you'll end up with a pretty versatile firearm. Great for deer, birds, and sporting clays.
My ideal rifle for deer is my Marlin 30-30 lever action. It usually ranges from 250.00 - 350.00. But if you want something smaller that will drop a deer I would go with the Savage 243. It is an ideal rifle for someone your age. But you could always go with a shotgun.

Get a Savage 30 06 package that comes with a mounted scope. You could usually find them for over 300, less than 400. You could take out any animal in North America with the 30 06 caliber. It's the perfect deer caliber.
I would have to say that a Mossberg 500 combo would be a good idea for you, that way you can hunt turkey in a few weeks too. If your really set on a rifle, a Mossberg 100 ATR is also a good choice. You can get one for under $300 depending on the caliber you want.
22 center fire will kill a deer, so will most shot guns with slugs
a lot depends on where you're hunting and the distance to
the target. I hunt in the Michigan woods where most ';clear';
shots are less than 100 yards - my Winchester mod94
30-30 is the ideal ';bush gun'; for my purposes -- bought
it some years ago for $125 (think they're 225-250 now)
go to your local sports shop and see what they have available
most of the folks that work in the gun department can
steer you to what would be best for your price range
dude, with that money, you can buy an airsoft gun for TRAINING purposes
