Is there a deer cam that you can monitor from your computer?

I know there are some our there that have the capability, but get ready to spend alot of money. They have satellite capability, and are not cheap.

How to make Deer Roast?

I was wondering if deer roast can be made along the same lines as a pork or beef roast? I make my roast in a crock pot, and I wanted to make my deer in there as well? I have never had to make a deer roast before, but this year I got my first deer and wanted to make a roast with the tenderloins for Thanksgiving. How to make Deer Roast?
I meant to answer this earlier.

Apparently cauliflower pares well with deer roast because most recipes I have for deer roast call for cauliflower as a vegetable.

And remember to soak your deer meat in salt water before cooking. (it draws the blood out of it)

Venison Stew

2 lbs. meat, cubed

3 cloves garlic

2 onions, sliced

3 tbsp. vegetable oil

2 bay leaves

1 head cauliflower

3 potatoes, cubed

6 carrots, cubed

1 can tomato sauce

1 tbsp. salt

1 c. water

Throw all in a crock pot and cook until done.

Ask your teacher. And use whatever spelling they think is correct.

but personally, i don't see the big deal.

  • Is a whitetail deer a chordata, non-placental mammal?

It's a chordata (it has a vertebral column, like all mammals)

But it DOES have a placenta as well.

The mammals that do not have placentas are marsupials (kangaroos, opossums - use pouches), and monotremes (echidna/platypus - use eggs)

I am going to harrison arkansas this winter and i wanted to know if the mule deer are any good up thereAre there mule deer in north Arkansas?
No there are no mule deer in Arkansas.

There are however Elk in the Harrison area but the permits had to be applied for from May 1- July 15.

Very beautiful country here in Arkansas bring a camera and photograph the elk especially in the Jasper area about 15 miles away on Highway 7 south from Harrison.

Our Whitetail season is November 4- December 6.Are there mule deer in north Arkansas?
I live in North central Kansas, and have both in the pasture (Muleys and Whitetails), however the Muleys get pretty scarce to non-existant, 100 miles east of me. I don't think you'll find any in Arkansas...
    Nope.. notta single one.

There are some Elk here in the natural state but you have to win a lottery in order to harvest one.

What would you think the best gun for shooting deer would for around 400 dollars?

i only have 400 dollars to spend and i want to get a realy good gunWhat would you think the best gun for shooting deer would for around 400 dollars?
You sound unexperienced, buy a mossberg shotgun or an 870. Steoger makes the wonderful P-350 magnum for 350$What would you think the best gun for shooting deer would for around 400 dollars?
i personally like the 30-06 some say its a little big but when i shoot something i like it to die and not have to chase it down. also if you ever get into hunting elk you wont have to get a different gun. Another one that tons of people really lean towards is the 270. if you want one of those the best are by far a weather bee but that might be expensive so remington is not bad either. and the 06 personally i think rugger makes a fine one.
Rifles that hover around the $400 are the Weatherby Vanguard / Howa 1500 line, Savage and a few Remingtons and then the Mossberg ATR and Marlin XL-7 are closer to $300 as are Stevens (bare bones Savage). The local WalMart has had some Remington ADL 700s for $450,couple less, and the Savages were $377, either would make fine choices. Only thing few of us would recommend is the Remington 770, not a great choice. I've seen Calbela's have some ADL 700s for $400 too. Oh, some of the WalMart guns have usable scopes mounted also, not great scopes so look at getting a bare gun and $175 for a Nikon Pro Staff scope.

My preference is for a bolt action rifle, because I hunt in conditions that can have 400 yard shots to 30 foot shots and I want to err on the side of 400. That keeps 30-30 and most lever action guns out of the mix. As most states have 243 as the minimum caliber, I would get something a little more forgiving than the min. 270,30-06 and 308 should be enough for any hunting situation except the largest Alaskan bears and I've had 30-06s since I was 14. With knowing my rifle and bullets I wouldn't hesitate on a shot at 350 to 400 yards even on elk with any of them. 30-06 gives you the best choice of energy and bullet weights over either of the others, and can be loaded with any shooter in mind. My 11 year old can shot reduced recoil in my 30-06.
I'd look for a Savage model in one of the 30 calibers. Savage makes good, honest firearms at lower prices than Winchester, Browning, and Howa (or is it Tika?), all of which come from the same factory - in Japan.

30-06, also called 30 Springfield, 30 Government, or even 7.62x 63mm has plenty of power for 'most any North American game, and you can still find military surplus ammo for plinking and home defense.

The .308 Winchester, aka 30 NATO, 7.63mm NATO, 7.62 x 51mm, etc is essentially a short-action 30-06 with just a tad less room for powder, but was invented after powder became more efficient, so you get the same nominal load from either cartridge. There's tons of surplus ammo for this cartridge, too, as it's still being used by militaries all over the world.
Well that's plenty of $$$ to spend on a Rifle, but if you buy a Good used Remington or Savage used you will have lots of $$$ left to buy ammo etc.* Buy a Bolt action rifle in 30-06, 308, 270, or 243 caliber.* A New Rifle Does Not shoot any better than a Good Used One.*
i have a similar problem, but from what i have seen and heard, savages are way more gun than what you pay for them. Savage 111 series in .270, or 30.06 would be fine, and they cost about $400. Also look for people selling them, sometimes you can find good guns for $300 or so.
depends on where your hunting, if your hunting heavy cover, thick forest I think a good .30-.30 would be enough. If its a little clearer or you have some open pastures, etc...I think a .270 will probably take down what you shoot at.
get a ruger .308 of some type. They're great guns and its a perfect caliber for almost any game. They're nearly indestructible and fairly cheap as well. Good luck and have fun.
A 12-gauge pump shotgun. You can get rifled barrels for them which will allow you to use slugs out to 100 yards. Also, you can get different barrels for different applications.

I am looking for the website or name of a cooler designed to carry a deer cape and antlers?

Do you perhaps mean a deer skin and not a cape?

AHa, sorry for jerking your chain. I personally have never heard of one of those. If I find one I will respond.

My apologies, but thanks for the clarification.

How much money do you think it would be to repair the front of a car (Ford Windstar 2003) I drove into a deer.

Over $1000 for sure. Depending on how many OTHER things did you lose. Only a body shop can know for sure. How much money do you think it would be to repair the front of a car (Ford Windstar 2003) I drove into a deer.
lmao, take it to a body shop and get an estimateHow much money do you think it would be to repair the front of a car (Ford Windstar 2003) I drove into a deer.
well, i can tell you from experience that an '03 ford windstar front bumper alone is $780 in S.C. now, that is the bumper and for them to put it on. i imagine you are looking at over $2000 in repairs.
OMG what happened 2 the deer ?
I really can't tell you because I don't know the extent of the damage. It could range from $400-a couple thousand. I would take it in for an estimate. I know what I feels like to hit a deer. I've hit three. One on the freeway.

You cook them at a really low heat like 200 degrees, until theyre done. Thats what my neighbor does, and hes a hunter!

Do yu know what can keep racoons and deer away from my watermelons?

Deer are best repelled by scents. One effective method is cheap deodorant soap - drill a few holes in it and hang it near your watermelons. Another method is DeerOff - but make sure its okay for use on edibles - some products can make your food taste funny. There are also products made frm coyote urine that really scare deer away. You can also try netting bunched up over your melons - animals dont like dealing with complicated plastic netting that might entangle them. Another is a taste/scent repellent you can make out of raw eggs and white or red hot pepper whipped up, let sit for a day and then mix with water and spray. Raccoons hate chile peppers too, so try a cayenne mix.Do yu know what can keep racoons and deer away from my watermelons?
George Bush ?Do yu know what can keep racoons and deer away from my watermelons?
A tall fence, with part of it buried in the ground so that the raccoons can't dig under it.

You can also get a sprinkler head that has a motion sensor on it. A neighbor uses this (and a tall fence) to protect her garden.
Speak to someone local at http://www.1800topsoil.com to see what other people in your area do.
An electric fence - that's what my FIL uses.
I don't know either, but if you find out let me know!
I have heard that human hair does the trick. So pull out all your friends' hair...OOPS...NO, don't do that...LOL Just collect it from hairbrushes and combs, and put it in knee high stockings or those mesh bags that onions come in, and hang them around, even if you have to put little stakes up to do so.
maybe you should keep the watermelons away from the racoons and deer.

Where is the proper place to shoot a deer and having it drop right on the spot?

or where is the proper spot to shot it and how long does it take for it to usually dieWhere is the proper place to shoot a deer and having it drop right on the spot?
As JD C has already advised right BEHIND the front leg will be a good hit in the Heart and Lungs (Vitals) area. A shot in the Spinal column will ';usually'; drop them on the spot. There are way too many variables to be able to answer your question as to how long it will take for a Deer to expire..EVERY case is different, and determined by the individual shot and the angle of penetration. This applies to Firearms, Black Powder, or Bowhunting it doesn't matter which method you use to hunt.....ALL DIFFERENT....Where is the proper place to shoot a deer and having it drop right on the spot?
Head shots usually work... other than that, right about midsection behind the front shoulder. Frothy!
the proper place is to shoot him right under the shoulder..so it can go right threw the heart..he'll drop in about half a second..
    http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?鈥?/a>

If done properly, it will die on the spot. If not, you may be following a blood trail for a long time. A good trailing dog helps, too.
Either a head shot or a neck shot will put the deer down in its tracks. A heart/lung shot will drop a deer very quickly. However, due to its nervous system, a deer can often run 100 yards after a good solid shot to the heart. I cannot say how much a deer is aware of its condition after having been shot in this manner, but I suspect that the shock to its system is sufficient that it is essentially dead from the time the bullet hits it.
if the deer is broad side put the bullet through the front shoulder so it breaks both front shoulders they will drop in their tracks just don't plan on using any of the meat from the front shoulders .if the deer is facing you aim for the white spot at the top of the throat.
I broke the neck of the first deer I ever killed. No wasted meat and no tracking.
    neck shot
You got many good answers.JD's was right on.Perfect answer.Being an ethical hunter to me means to shoot for the largest collective vital area.I tell my new hunters to try to shoot them in the middle of the front half of the body. How far they travel then,or whether they drop or run has nothing to do with the gun.It is luck, really.A neck shot is the best to drop one,and will, but requires you hit a 3'' spot or so.The chest is 9'' or so.How far away / how confident a marksman / woman you are should determine which you choose,in my opinion.Become proficient with the gun you will use before you go.Not a different gun.THE gun.Shoot it and know where it's hitting, and see if you yourself need practice. The quarry deserves this from you.
The fact that you are asking the question at all indicates that you are a responsible hunter. Award yourself a slap on the back - if only there were more like you. Do not - unless you are highly accomplished, or super-confident - ever go for a head shot, and certainly not a spine shot (in fact never go for a spine shot, there is never a good enough reason to do this).

The shot that will always bring down a beast is to the heart.

As some of the other posters have said, it's behind the front shoulder blade. Wait 'til your quarry is broadside on to you and take the shot. You always have more time than you think, so don't panic.

Remember, if in any doubt - don't take the shot. There will always be another day and another deer. We have a responsibility to treat animals and the art of hunting with respect. If we don't, we only have ourselves to blame if the 'antis' start campaigning against us.

    Good luck.
I use the well proven and tried 30-06 that has been on the battle fields in almost every war that American has fought.

My recommendation to you is to buy a silouette of a deer and mark the spot with a red round shooting spotter that will stick to the target. You are going for a lung shot. Above the front leg ten inches. Ten inches behind the front leg.

Practice makes perefect. When you can group them in a three inch group at 200 yards then you are good to go.

I do head shots young Man...................
now i have shot many deer and when i do deer management i go for the tough shots and when i shoot doe in the head they kick alot and i have shot many directly in the heart and blew it up that kicks alot too just because of the nerves but i shot a deer once when i was little in the spine not on porpose but when i hit him he went down like a sack of potatoes and didn't kick so i would have to say the spine
Shoot it in the neck and it will drop right there.
for an absolute, FALL WHERE YOU SHOT IT kill, use a gun like a marlin .444 or larger, shoot so as to hit the deer in the head, about 4'; below where the horns meet the head,

you won't have a trophy, but you don't waste any meat either
well if u want to drop a deer in its tracks, u should shoot it in the head, or in the spine. Both of these are very bad shots however. A shot to the head could hit the jaw and leave the animal with no jaws. Ive seen it happen. One time this guy tried to shoot a doe in the head with a slug. It hit the jaw and took it rite off. The doe was still alive and they never found it. It most likely died of infection or starvation.

When u shoot a deer in the spine, they generally r stll alive. Ud have to shoot them again or cut its throat. A good shot is rite behind the front leg. U can see the paddle bone, and u need to shoot rite behind it. This is where the vitals r. It may not drop the deer in its tracks (it actually most likely not) but it will kill it cleanly and quickly. The best shot is in the liver, because it is easy to track. It also takes them down quickly. A heart shot is also good, as is a lung shot.

It generally takes a deer to die about like 5 seconds if u shoot it rite. THey generally run about one hunndred yards bfor dropping dead. This is especially true with a heart or liver shot.

    hope this ansers ur question.
If your a steady aim and good shot clip the backbone in two Instant. Other than directly behind the front shoulder and he won't last long. Of course it also depends how the deer is standing to know where to place your shot.
Try to get it in a 3/4s position. At an angle to you sort of diagonal. if you hit it at an angle so you shoot through the whole midsection you could hit the lung and jugular witch is a good fatal shot
Hitting the spine will at least drop them instantly. You may need to do some throat cutting to finish the job. However, the spine is a darn small target, even for the best marksman. You're more likely to graze or miss if you actually try to shoot at it (with very close overhead shots at standing deer aside). Shoot right behind the shoulder (assuming you're shooting directly broadside and at the same elevation as the deer), and you'll likely hit the heart and both lungs. That'll kill him dead, dead, dead before he can leave your site. Good chance that shot will also drop him in his tracks, depending on the caliber and type of bullet.
right between the eyes like the good old boys do. hemight twitch a bit but he will be quite dead.

My Husband was almost killed by hitting a deer on his way to work. ALL yellow reflectors should be outlawed!!!

I think all YELLOW reflectors on roadsides should be banned because of so many wrecks caused by deer. Their eyes shine out in the night as yellow. So do you think or agree that all reflectors whether by the highway dept. or on a mailbox should be out-lawed in order to better help people to see and know that a deer is running out? Especially in the Southern U.S., If you agree, would you help in contacting via email or other our US Senate, Government %26amp; such?My Husband was almost killed by hitting a deer on his way to work. ALL yellow reflectors should be outlawed!!!
Actually, I wouldn't mind helping, but my state has already changed most of the roadside reflectors to white. And since it's the states that do the highway building and localities that do the signage, writing to the national government won't do much good. Unless you can get overwhelming support to withhold highway funds, like they did with the drinking age.My Husband was almost killed by hitting a deer on his way to work. ALL yellow reflectors should be outlawed!!!
your husband tried to kill Bambie, what sympathy do you want. next time he should pay attention as he drives, and remember his limitations, the first being he can't tell the difference between a defenseless animal and a road sign.

    Get a life.
i hit a deer and i wrecked my bumper so what are u talking about???
They could use a different color but the reflectors are there to help people stay on the road when there is heavy fog.
    Uhhh no.

Here's a tip. When you're driving on a road where deer are known to be, you should slow down and pay careful attention.

And quit blaming yellow markers and animals for your carelessness.
    poor deer!
The deers need to be better trained on crossing at the deer crossing areas.
It is not the reflectors fault the deer jumped out, nor is it the reflectors fault your husband was not paying attention and did not see the deer. If you want to reduce accidents caused by deer, remove the roads, stop driving. This is their home and habitat. We have destroyed it. Your worried about your husband, what about the poor deer. He didn't ask you to drive the death machine into him, now did he?
Should be we also exterminate all the deer? I've had a few close calls with them, too, but have managed to miss them every time. Maybe we should outlaw drivers who are unaware that they're flying through an area where the deer roam.
I am sorry to hear that your husband was in a car accident. But writing our legislation with a request prohibiting roadside reflectors will not decrease the number of car accidents and fatalities involving nocturnal animals, like deer. Instead, it would increase the number of accidents in the area that deer cross, in addition to those areas where visibility of the actual at night is nearly impossible, as is.

I, too, live in a rural area and have been in accidents and near-misses with deer. Living in Coweta County, Georgia it is only common sense to decrease one's velocity and increase one's awareness after dark. Deer are not the only things that you should be on the look-out for when behind the wheel of a car.

    P.S.

I also agree with what iheartjessilee says. The areas in which we live, work, and drive through not the natural vicinities of housing complexes, shopping districts, and roadways. Rather they are the natural homes and habitats of wild animals. We should be considerate of the wilderness, wild places, wild plants, and wild life.
problem; other animals and some deer have eyes that shine as orange or red. Depends on the light used also. Sos you have to use some color that the eye picks up thats not in the trees and bushes and dirt. So pick a color that the eye really picks up on.

Not too much to do about it.
no i don't think the reflector's should be banned, it helps people know where the sides' of the road is. maybe a different color? Like the new blue or purple headlights their coming out with, but then everyone would think a car was running out in front of them and might actually swerve into a car...

Deer get hit a lot, you just gotta slow down and watch for them. They are scary and do cause a lot of accidents, I've ran over one before myself. But, it really didn't have anything to do with the reflector's on the side of the road, it was the deer...that ran out in front of me.
It would also help if they allowed for longer hunting seasons to help control the population of deer. In most of the USA there is no major predator for deer so the only way they die are from cars, hunting and disease/old age. My solution longer and large hunting quotas.
we need to do something and first is a commitee to investigate your claim that yellow reflectors are the cause and not the deer them-selves .we need to do studies on color blind drivers to see if they spot deer better then people who see colors .there are at least a hundred things that must be determined first before we can even make a recomendation to government on the best plan of action .I would suggest that all dear be captured and a strobe light be placed on them so they would be easliy seen by drivers as well as hunters so we do not have those nasty hunting accidents anymore where hunters get killed by being mistaken as prey in the woods.do you have 15,000,000 dollars to get the study going.
    yah they should be green!
Perhaps your husband should drive more carefully. I live in a rural area where we have a great deal of wildlife including Muntjak and Roe deer. We drive accordingly. Compassion for the innocent animal might be more appropriate.
Sympathy to your husband, but more regulations and a fatter bureaucracy aren't going to save us. We need to man up, take responsibility for our actions and realize that bad things happen to good people and there's nothing we can do about it.
I think there are many ways to prevent these kinds of tragadies. Changing the colour of the reflectors is one... so is slowing down and being watchful while driving at night... but I think you should start an online petition to help your cause.
The deer was her before we were. If you live were deer are plentiful then drive with care!!! We as humans are responsible for taking care of our wildlife and planet!!! Quite blaming everyone else!!! BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!!!
yes agreed but if they didnt have those things there would be no warning but they sould change it to red cuz school lights on the slow down thing to many things are yellow any way
I'm sorry about your husband, but no, I don't think reflectors should be outlawed. I think there's a lot more danger of running off the road in the dark than there is of hitting a deer, so banning reflectors would put many more people at risk. maybe one solution would be to change the color from yellow to lime green or hot pink--some un-deery color that would show up nicely in the dark! (is that what you meant by YELLOW?)

p.s. obviously the people calling your husband an idiot driver have never had a deer run in front of their car at night in an unlighted area--you can't see it until it's right in front of you. (but I also have sympathy for the deer--we HAVE destroyed their habitat.) hope your husband is doing well :)

What is the best way to track a deer before it is dead?

as in finding were deer are I say it like this because last time people said i was not pasific enoughWhat is the best way to track a deer before it is dead?
If you're talking about tracking the deer after you shoot it:

I usually take a spray bottle full of hydrogen peroxide with me. When sprayed on blood it bubbles and foams and makes a distinct hissing noise. If there isn't snow on the ground this makes finding the blood trail a lot easier.

If you're talking about tracking the deer before hunting season:

Look for deer droppings and impressions in the grass where they bed down. Look for rubbings and spend some time in the woods quietly observing where they are and where they are going and coming from.

Also, game cameras are a good tool to use. What is the best way to track a deer before it is dead?
Look for tracks. They usually lead to bedding areas or bodies of water were the deer frequently drink from. Try looking for obvious trails in the woods where brush and bushes are worn away. If you really want to get high tech set up those cameras that take pictures when animals walk past them, that way you know if theres big bucks in your spot. Me I just lay corn out about 75 yards from the porch window all year around and when huntin season comes in, well you dont even need to leave the house.
More than once I have used my precious stash of toilet paper usually carried in my back pocket when hunting, to mark where the last single drop of blood was spotted, as I searched for the next one. Then after the deer was found, I reclaimed each and every one of those square sheets, despite the fact they are biodegradable, as I might have other plans for them at some unspecified later time! For the good blood trail, I use ammo and ordnance specifically designed to have such large entrance, and often also exit wounds, that a marginally hit animal can be found. It happens to every hunter sooner or later, that an animal will lurch forward just as one is shooting, and ';long blood trail'; it is. Nosler Partition rifle bullets even in a 243 will usually exit for a very good double source blood trail. In handgun hunting, I prefer woods hunting at those closer ranges, so I can use big bore calibers, 44 or 45, which at magnum power levels leave a very good blood trail. Of course, with my usual marksmanship and control of the situation, few animals get more than 20 yards, and only the rare marginally hit beast makes it out of visual range. A hole through the lungs, and they don't get far. The lungs are a big target. Regards, Larry.
When you shoot the deer mark where you shot it, and where you last saw it. Mark that spot with a tree or a bush. I would give the deer at least 45 minutes to an hour before looking for him, you do not want to push a wounded deer. They are amazing athletes and can run with a leg blown off and muscle from the other half shot off. I tracked a friends deer he shot with a .30-06, exactly like I just described, it took about 4 hours but we did find him, he ran about 1.5 miles. If you have a buddy with you get in your stand and guide him to those spots, tell him to be careful where he steps! Start looking for the impact spot, where the round hit him. You will usually find tissue, blood and sometimes hair, and definitely hoof prints where he jolted. Find the blood trail, it will sometime be less right where you shot him and get better the farther you get. Follow the blood trail very slowly and carefully. Making sure to look at leaves on bushes and weeds. If you can maintain that blood trail you can find him. If not, having access to a good Walker Hound will help. Best measure is to make a good shot to begin with. If you are not 100% sure do not take the shot.
If you didn't shoot them, you can look for droppings, and tracks in the soft mud. If you already shot it, hopefully it will be right there on the ground but if not you can look for blood and turned up leaves. You can also listen for crunching leaves and sticks if the weather is on the dry side.
You follow the blood trail and look for disturbances in the vegetation. Tracks are good, too, if the ground is soft. I've been told that I'm good at it, at least for an amateur. Be persistent. Don't give up. It takes time to track down a deer some times. They're tough animals and can get far even after having been shot with a high powered rifle.
well blood trail, if none right away look for leaves ,,twiggs and grond debri out of place,,,, also look at trees for small spot of blood about hip high,,,,, if all fails and you sure he is hit, just set where you last saw him for about 15 -30 mins,, then resume trailing you probable will see the white belly first ok just shoot high and watch um die ok thanks
well of course tracking a dead one is the easiest.'cuz.....he's right there! LOL!!!
Look for trails, usually deer use the same trail everyday. They find food then go bed. Until the rut comes this is there routine everyday.
    * Well its a lot easier when there is snow on the ground.* I have run them down till they couldn't run or walk or get up any more.*
look for deer tracts in the mud and dirt

    look for their dumpings

    look for antler sheding

also try puting out food for them and see if they come to eat it
secret big buck trick---kidnap mother in law.pull down her pants.restrain.duck tape estrous call in mouth.douse in estrous urine--sit back 75 yards. wait
look for alot of tracks and trails and rubs and scrapes and it should help you alot.

  • Hit a deer wrecked my car $8500 damage why is my car not concerned total?

99 gs lexus hit a deer $8500 worth of damage so far the wreckage company did not even check the engine believe my car is worth 12,000 private sell 15,000 retail not sure why it is not total out. I am concern that it will cause me so many problems when i get it back with the computer in the car.Hit a deer wrecked my car $8500 damage why is my car not concerned total?
$8,500.00 isn't even 60% of the value. Most states require a vehicle be declared a total at 70 - 80% of the actual cash value, some states will allow a car to be repaired up to 99%. If your car is repaired by a top-notch collision repairer you should have no problems in the future.Hit a deer wrecked my car $8500 damage why is my car not concerned total?
Good question..Ask the insurance co why they didn't total it..
because it's cheaper to fix your car then to give you the 12 to 15 you expect. Get a better car insurance company (pay more for it) and they will total it
Take 15 minutes to *read* your policy to figure out what is their procedure in paying a claim, when a car is considered a total loss, how the value is determined. Also take a look at whether they guarantee the repairs done, for how long? Labor and Parts are often separated. Indeed handling of a claim is what separates great and average insurance companies, don't buy a policy based on price alone.
For a car to be totalled the amount of the damage needs to excede the blue book value of the car.
    12000

    -8500

=3500 in. will not pay dif.
That is a very good question, considering I only hit a tree, about 6 curbs, and o yea, another curb. In a MERCURY SABLE!! And they totaled my car. I got 1800 for it and GOD KNOWS WHY I got a Ford Taurus. I would have been better off keeping the totaled Sable. LMAO.
the car is worth more then the damage done to it

and yes like the last answer if your not 100% Happy just let them no
It could be close, but not quite, who knows? Ask your adjuster. They go by Actual Cash Value, and won't total it unless the damages are 75-80% of that amount.
the value of the car is high, when you get it back you have to be 100% happy or you do not have to keep it,,call your ins co and tell then.

Where are deer during the day?

i live in missouri and there are deer all over the place towards sunset and night but where are they during the morning and afternoon?Where are deer during the day?
    sleepin or hiding

probly hiding frm ure face :)Where are deer during the day?
At the 'BUCK or two' stores.
    the woods or in meadows
They are bedding down somewhere in the woods. Usually in the same area.
In Missouri.....they hang around Springfield@ Bass Pro Shop
Deer rarely ';Bed Down'; during the day in fact they move as much and often more mid day as any other time, but being creatures of habit they stick close to their bedding areas, venturing out to feed and water in the early morning and late day ,they do this because their ability to see is better as they can distinguish shadows better at these times, and this adds to their ability to avoid predators also as shadows grow darker a predators eye sight gets worse also working to the deers advantage that is why you see them more early and late day because they venture farther and move more readily at those times.
    At a matinee.

Hiding and resting like we do at night.
The deer find hidden places like under a bush or in a draw and places that are off the beaten track. They lie down in those places so there is very little of their bodies to be seen then they come out in the evening to feed.
cougars are always looking for deer
    they sleep under bushes

Is it legal in Texas to kill a deer with a knife?

It is not specifically prohibited by hunting laws (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications… but apart from the impracticality of getting close enough to a wild animal to use a knife, there is a practical side to your question:

The knife is not necessarily the primary method of the hunt (i.e. used in bringing the animal down) but rather is used on an already downed animal (whether shot during lawful hunting, or hit by a car) that is still alive. The knife is used to humanely put the creature down. In that instance, it is legal to do so provided you do it in a quick, correctly anatomical manner to kill it. Trying to kill it haphazardly and causing it to suffer could potentially be illegal under animal cruelty laws.Is it legal in Texas to kill a deer with a knife?
    http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications…

Doesn't really mention it. I would compare it to using a bow, but you would have to be very close. It would be hard to sneak up on one and make a fatal hit with a knife before it ran.

If you are on your own private property try it - If you can do it let me know.

If on a lease or public property- ask the owner. Is it legal in Texas to kill a deer with a knife?
only if you have a permit to hunt deer at the time,

i never been able to get that close to a deer, there plenty quick and see ya comming
It's not illegal to hunt deer with a knife....but how are you gonna get close enough to kill it without him smelling, hearing, or seeing you? what're you Rambo or something?
I don't think it is legal anywhere to kill a deer with a knife, if it is that law needs to be changed.
Idiot above the person above me. AND it is legal as long as you don't tell the feds.
Only if you hunt in the nude and wear the matting scent of the animal you are hunting Think you might enjoy doing a little bear hunting
That's another reason Palin can't become president - we'd be able to strangle all wildlife with our bare hands. For sport. And then sell their limbs for spending money. Ugh.
I guess if its hunting season.
only if you are wearing a loin cloth

When do deer start rubbing trees.. ?

They begin in mid August and will continue till they shed their antlers in February-March.

Now is the beginning of the peak season for rubs and scrapes. They are making them now. They are in early rut and will be tearing up trees all over. When do deer start rubbing trees.. ?

It depends on where you are located. In northern climates, Whitetail Deer can start rubbing the velvet off their antlers (and as other answers have commented, leaving scent and strengthening their neck and shoulder muscles) as early as late August. In more southern climates, this might take as long as late October.
In late summer and early fall rubs are usually made by bucks rubbing the velvet off their newly acquired antlers. During the rut and late season, rubs can be made by aggressive bucks strengthening their neck muscles or bucks just marking out their home territory. A bucks forehead gland will leave a scent to let other deer know who made the rub.
Where I live it is usually in September, when they start removing the velvet from thier antlers.
    When they have an itch??????
Here in minnesota they have been doing it for about a month.

Can a deer chihuahua mate with a shitzu?

yes they can, any dog can be bred by another.

it just means you'll be having mutt puppies. Can a deer chihuahua mate with a shitzu?
CAN they? If she'll let him.

SHOULD they? Not if you care about the breed. Can a deer chihuahua mate with a shitzu?
Yes, dogs are dogs. Genetically, any of them can mate with each other. However, there are no guarantees about what the puppies will be like.

Deer chihuahuas aren't exactly a real thing. Like teacups, it's just a made-up categorization to help unscrupulous breeders sell more dogs. A chihuahua is just a chihuahua, regardless of what someone wants to call it.

If you're thinking about breeding, please don't. Millions of dogs die every year because they don't have homes. Every dog who is intentionally or accidentally bred takes a home away from a dog in a shelter.

  • What does breaking the pelvic bone on the deer do when you are field dressing a deer?

It makes it better when you go to dress it and slice it open!*What does breaking the pelvic bone on the deer do when you are field dressing a deer?
I have never needed to, or wanted to break the pelvic bone while cleaning a deer. Just suspend with the head upward, and gravity will do most of the work of gut removal. I personally use a lung shot to avoid nicking any gut. I tie off the esophagus and anus with twine, and remove it all as a generally single unit, with a tub to catch the offal, if in camp. The hips come apart and the shoulderblades come off with a modest bit of knifework, and the backstraps, etc. fill a bag. I leave the hide in place on the legs to keep dirt and flies off the meat as much as possible, as the hairs will wash off easily later, and few hides I have carefully preserved ever did anything but go sour while I worked with all the meat. So screw the hides. Also, the liver sautes up for an energy boosting snack while you are working, and it is full of deer adrenaline, the Indian name for it out west being ';run all day';!

For a gutshot deer that moved just as one is shooting (it eventually happens to everybody), attack and get those 4 legs off the torso immediately, knowing the hams might already be gamey tasting. The rest is coyote food. Regards, Larry. What does breaking the pelvic bone on the deer do when you are field dressing a deer?
It's not really neccessary if you take a knife and hit the hip socket just right, the legs will come off without the use of a saw cutting through the hip bone. this is especially useful if you have gut shot the deer, and do not want to containment the hindquarters, shouders and back straps. The only thing lost is the 2 small tenderloins that is contaminated anyway.
It allows you to get to the bladder and rectum to remove them without damaging them. It is also necessary in order to quarter the animal. I always carry either a saw or hatchet for this job. Both work quite well.
It allows you to complete the field dressing of the deer. You can remove the intestine without tearing it with the pelvic bone out of the way.
Allows you to quarter it for easier transport.

    What exactly are dear/deer sonnets?

My girlfriend was telling me tonight that her favorite kind of sonnet is a Dear/Deer sonnet, and I had the idea of writing one for her. However, I definitely need more details on exactly how they work (and perhaps some online resources). Thanks! What exactly are dear/deer sonnets?
I'm not sure what poem she is talking about; but a dear (loved) deer(the animal) would be a poem or sonnet about the deer someone loved.

What's with the mouth cover when you are hunting deer?

i saw it in a video. What's with the mouth cover when you are hunting deer?
Strictly to break up your facial outline to help make your body blend into your surroundings. It does nothing to filter out human scent from your body or breath. You'll see it most often being used by Deer and Turkey hunters, because both animals have heightened senses of movement awareness in their natural surroundings. What's with the mouth cover when you are hunting deer?
2 purposes. It helps keep the human scent away from the prey. Scent is the number one cause of sppoking an animal.

second, it helps break up the outline of the face.
It's to break up the outline and hide the color of your face.

Some folks prefer it to camo facepaint.

It does little to conceal your smell, though.

The scent particles, being only a few microns across, will easily pass through cloth.
I wear a neoprene 1/2 face shield- when its cold

Its purpose is so I dont breath in the ice cold air and for camouflage purposes

or a folded in 1/2 camouflage kerchief tied over my nose/ mouth- as to break up my shiny face appearance - outline and for the cold

IF you wash with a scent shield soap ( mine smells like dead leaves) you shouldnt have a problem with human scent

dont brush your teeth with toothpaste ( too harsh of smell)

What is the best semi auto gun for hunting whitetail deer?

i need a gun that has over under sight capability that is power full fast and light What is the best semi auto gun for hunting whitetail deer?
You do not specify if you will be hunting in a rifle or shotgun state.

Shotgun Remington 1100 with rifled slug barrel (not cantilever) several scope mounting options will allow you to still see the sights under the scope.

I can not recomend any rifles that are automatic. I only use bolt, lever or pump actions. Automatic rifles are illegal in the states I hunt. What is the best semi auto gun for hunting whitetail deer?
Consider a Remington 750 Woodsmaster.... Either chambered in .270, .308 or 30-06..... This rifle is fairly accurate to 150 yards.... I would not attempt to take long shots with it but for closer in shots this rifle would shine!......

    http://www.remington.com/products/firear鈥?/a>

Another rifle semi-auto rifle to consider for deer is a Ruger Mini 30 chambered in 7.62X39MM..... This cartridge has 1000 foot pounds of energy required for white tail deer to 150 yards.... Mine is topped off with a Nikon 2-7X32MM scope. I have had great success taking deer to 125 yards but would surely refrain from taking longer shots....

    http://www.chuckhawks.com/ruger_mini-30.鈥?/a>
Browning makes some nice ones -
    Browning, with special scope rings.
You really don't need, or want, a semi-auto for deer. An ethical hunter only shoots deer when they are standing still, and a bolt action is going to be a bit more accurate than the semi-auto. If you need rapid shot repetition, it sounds like you're planning to shoot at moving deer. That's a big no-no, and it makes hunters look bad as a whole.
    Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR).

You can get them chambered in just about any caliber, including some of the harder to come by Winchester short magnums, but they are a bit on the pricey side.

  • Should the buffalo and deer be paid reparations?

    Dear Chief Squatting Dog,

We have a question for all the ';Native'; Americans out there. When you came across the Bering Strait during the Ice Age and you displaced all of those poor innocent deer and buffalo, did you take into account their feelings? When you killed the deer, how many deer mother were forced to grieve their lost children? When you wore the skin of buffalo, how many were traumatized by the sight of seeing their brothers displayed like trophies on the bodies of their slayers?

The deer and buffalo have spoken! We want reparations! We demand our land back and 50 million salt licks!

The Europeans have killed and displaced us too but at least they weren't sanctimonious and whiny about being 'here first'. You weren't here first, we were!

They confined us to reservations too (wildlife refuges), but you don't here us yelping about it.

BTW, What's the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts?

Beer nuts are $1.79 for a bag, deer nuts are two for under a buck!Should the buffalo and deer be paid reparations?
How funny. But I thought the natives just materialized here out of no where. Deer and buffalo should have protected their borders huh?Should the buffalo and deer be paid reparations?
Wow. Racism is alive and well today. The buffalo and deer do have protection under federal law, bonehead. Go to a federal reserve and try to shoot one. I hear federal prison is more of a cake walk, you will enjoy your life there...
Ummm ok but the dinosaurs want thier life back
You know, that's a good question. The Native Americans are always complaining about their reservations and the White men who stole their land (they shouldn't be complaining anyway....they have their own frigging casinos!)

Anyway, the animals deserve to be treated better!
Dont be an a$$. Do some research and learn about history. ';Indians'; were treated very badly in history. Dont down play that!
Mmmmm, buffalo; I think I'll have that for dinner tonight. You can't have your land back but there is a place on my table for you.
    Bambi makes good sandwiches.
Mendi8a-Aztecs were treated very badly as well, yet I have yet to see one pro-illegal even acknowledge that fact... Why aren't you screaming in the streets for Mexicans to leave Mexico as well? Since it did previously belong to the Aztecs, Mayans, and other cultures....Oh yeah, it only counts when it is something that supports YOUR argument right?

How is what happened in America ANY different than what happened in Mexico?
What about bunny rabbits, squirrels, and snakes? When is the automotive industry going to make reparations for all this carnage?
I am all for giving the poor critters more room--that is why no more people can come in from anywhere.

The rest we will put off till tomorrow or next week.

and foxnews has a good answer too.

Will rattling work on deer in Payson in January?

I want to get them into bow rangeWill rattling work on deer in Payson in January?
It will be somewhat effective if done properly. Unlike other cooler states, in Arizona our rut is in Dec and Jan. Try it but know that when you rattle bucks they come ';Looking'; for the fight and are on alert. Movement on your part may be seen before you see the buck so concealment is important. They will come from any direction so make sure you have a full field of view. Once they are close follow up with a grunt call to get them closer without rattling.

Good luck! Will rattling work on deer in Payson in January?
Well, I've never been bow hunting out of WI. In WI I've been bow hunting for years...I've used rattling pre-rut and rut time which for us is Sept into Nov. This is the time when bucks are more likely to be sparing which is what you are trying to copy and gain a bucks curiousity. In the years I've hunted I've been out during second season which for us goes to the new year. Bucks tend to start losing their antlers in Dec. so the likelyhood of them sparing is low. Best bet would be to just try patterning the deer and hunting off of well used trails to get a buck in bow range. Just concentrate on your placement versus the wind direction and the direction the deer are traveling.
I would say no. You can't ';get'; them into bow range. You have to get yourself into bow range. Sit 20 yards off of a highly used trail and wait. Find feeding areas and bedding areas and wait in a tree. Hunt the afternoon and try and get 100 yards from the bedding area 20 yards off the trail. AND WAIT!

Check out this article on calling.

    http://www.bowsite.com/bowsite/features/practical_bowhunter/deergrunting/index.cfm
Rattling will get a buck's interest any time of the year but obviously best during the rut. It can be over done so but you can draw them in with moderate activity.
You could try it, but I think it would not be productive.* The best way to find out is to do it and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained or lost.*

    Deer meat recipe EASY please?

I have a small roast and I wanna cook it for my husband cos he loves deer, problem is I have never cooked deer in my life....... HELPDeer meat recipe EASY please?
My dad cooks a lot of deer and I have been eating it as long as I can remember. His famous recipe everyone love he call ';smokies';. Cut the meat into 2 in cubes and marinade in worchestershire sauce overnight. Put the cubes on wooden skewers and wrap in bacon, then brush with your fav bbq sauce and put on the grill, like 5 min on each side ~ they are delicious ~ the bacon is key get a good thick pepper corn smoked bacon!

He likes to serve them with green bean casserole and oven baked potatoes (diced potatoes seasoned with lawrys season and sliced sweet onions bake at 425 for like 30-45 min)Deer meat recipe EASY please?
Well the only piece of deer I ever cooked well was the roast. Al the other makes me gag.

I take my roast and pour rice vinegar over it and pierce it with a fork and place it in a baggie to marinate overnight.

I then place it in a roasting pan and smother it with mustard and honey and sprinkle garlic powder on it.

I bake it slow @ 250 degrees for 4-5 hours.

It is ready now for chopping or shredding and I make a Stroganoff with the drippings, add the meat back and serve it over rice or noodles.

    My family loves it.

    * 3 tablespoons drippings (more depending on the amount of meat)

    * 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

    * 1/4 teaspoon pepper

    * 1 container of fresh sliced mushrooms

    * 2 tablespoons flour

    * 2 cups sour cream

Add drippings, mushrooms to skillet and simmer for about 5 minutes; blend in flour. Gradually stir in sour cream. Heat and stir until thickened -- do not boil. Return meat to sauce and heat through. Serve with hot seasoned rice or noodles
actually be cooked just like any other sausage, by browning it in a frying pan or using it in a stew,

Use butter or olive oil for health benefits as well as taste

A collection of herbs and spices you might wish to keep on hand:

Fresh onions (grilled, saut茅ed or diced) or onion powder

    Fresh garlic or garlic powder

    Black pepper

    Turmeric

    Recipes

    Venison Stroganoff

2 lbs venison steaks - fat trimmed and cut into thin strips

    3 TBSP butter

    Fresh mushrooms, sliced

    1/3 cup cooking sherry

    1/3 cup water

1 envelope Lipton onion soup mix

    Dash of garlic salt

    Dash of curry powder

    1 beef bouillon cube

    1 cup sour cream

Wine vinegar is common in venison recipes but for those who don't care for that type of flavor can omit the ingredient without harming the dish.

    Good Luck
I don't have a specific recipe, but I will say to be caution because venison is very, very lean. So you want to make sure you cook it in some olive oil. Substitute it for beef in a stew. We've even used it in chili; you could cut it into cubes and cook it that way.

    I almost said: ';Be glad that you have a husband that can hunt-- you have a way of getting food if thing every went down the tubes!';

But then I saw your details. That rocks! Good luck with your roast!

I would like to know if my grandson can use his Rossi 22/410 combo to hunt deer?

That is with the 410 barrel (modified choke) %26amp; slugs. I am referring to whether he can safely use this gun/barrel combination with slugs. It is the barrel that comes with the original package, he does not have the rifled barrel. I would guess that if the barrel is proofed for shotshells it is safe with slugs but I would appreciate replies from anyone with experience in this matter or technical knowledge of this gun. Thank you.I would like to know if my grandson can use his Rossi 22/410 combo to hunt deer?
Yes. A .410 shotgun capable of firing shot will fire slugs. Both are held to the same 12,500 PSI (13,500 PSI for 3'; shells) pressure ceiling. For that matter, most .410 slugs are actually undersized since the majority of .410 shotgun barrels are fully choked from the factory.

And .410 slug isn't really a good deer load. Yes, it develops 650 to 800 ft/lbs of kinetic energy at the muzzle (putting it squarely between .357 Magnum and .41 Magnum in terms of energy,) but a shotgun slug isn't the most streamlined of projectiles, so velocity drops off rapidly. At 100 yards the kinetic energy is in the neighborhood of 200 to 230 ft/lbs. For best results, and assuming you live in a state which permits such a thing, one would have to use a .410 shotgun at ranges well under fifty yards.I would like to know if my grandson can use his Rossi 22/410 combo to hunt deer?
Most states will not allow a 410 for deer.

You need to check with you states Department of Wildlife for the requirements for deer hunting.
Well, a .50BMG will not stop a deer either without hitting it in the spine or the brain (the latter is not recommended).

That said, I WOULD NOT recommend using a .410 on deer. A .410 slug is about as powerful as a .44 Magnum, which isn't saying much.

Don't get me wrong though. Under 75 yards or so, the .44 Magnum is an effective deer cartridge. The problem is that the .410 slugs don't share some of the .44's important characteristics.

The .44 Magnum is almost always shot out of a rifled barrel, giving greater accuracy than a .410 shot out of a modified choke.

Another thing is that the .44 Magnum should be loaded with expanding bullets (these greatly increase the hit's effectiveness on large game such as deer) when used for hunting. The problem here is that, advertised as doing so or not, shotgun slugs DO NOT expand effectively. A .44 Magnum does.

As to the question of safety, the gun should handle it fine. I have heard of people shooting 12 gauge slugs through chokes with no problems.

But, be aware of what happens when you shoot a slug through a choke. The slug will be squeezed into the choke, further reducing accuracy.

Personally, I'd buy him a centerfire for deer, but it's your call. I wouldn't recommend doing it with a modified choke, but with a rifled barrel, it could be done with some degree of efficiency.

One last thing is that with such a set-up, I would recommend a double lung shot over the shoulder shot, as the .410 would have questionable power for going through the tough shoulders of a deer.
should be perfectly safe-depending on the condition of the gun

anyone who says a .410 is too weak a round to take a deer must not be able to shoot

I have seen more deer taken with a .410 or a .22 than any other rounds

    illegal in Ohio? since when?
kinda week in firepower if its all you got go for it but gona have to be close shooting deer is all placment of the round i seen a deer run 2 miles with a gut shot 30-06 and one drop dead with one shot of 22
It will be safe for slugs, a rifled slug will give it more accuracy but I'm not sure if it is powerful enough to stop a deer and it may be illegal under your state's hunting regulations. Make sure you check that out first.
Illegal in some states and not a good idea in the others, the 410 slug would only be equivalent to a good stout 38/40 load inside 50 yards, but it's terribly inaccurate, and the Remington slugs (and I think the Brennekes) are made for cylinder bores. Winchester slugs will shoot in a modified-improved, but I think you're pushing things about two steps beyond reasonable with the modified choke.
It depends on his abilities with the firearm. If he understands ';sight picture'; and can hit the animal in the head or heart then a .22 will kill a full grown deer. I've seen alot of people do so. However, do not buy the Rossi as it has a lot of maintenance issues. I see more of these guns in my shop than any other. It will hurt his confidence. Now the .410 with proper 3'; shell will do the job alittle easier.
No. I have never heard of .410 deer hunting. It is illegal in Ohio.

Is there a rule for determining plural forms of words like Deer, Fish, ect?

Like if you where to say an unrecognized name, like somthing made up, is there a rule determining how the plural form is said? Like, if I were to make up the word ';deer'; Is there a rule making it's plural pronounced ';deer'; ? Thanks. Is there a rule for determining plural forms of words like Deer, Fish, ect?
No. You've just got to learn them and remember them (like we all did).

.Is there a rule for determining plural forms of words like Deer, Fish, ect?
Add an ';i'; to the end of everything, it makes it sound futuristic and awesome.
No, they are exceptions to the rule.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/natur鈥?/a>

Such as when I'm going to finally get some sleep. Anyway views on whether the article was newsworthy or not. tvmDo we really need to be informed about mating habits of deer surely there's more important news?
At least it's better than watching the recent ';presidential pantomime'; from ';you know where';.Do we really need to be informed about mating habits of deer surely there's more important news?
Strange as it may seem our Deer need protecting. It turns out that large numbers are being slaughtered by poachers and so the mating bit while not as important as it may seem, could soon be of some importance. By the way I blame the immigrants!
If you were a doe, a deer, a female deer then you might be more interested. Otherwise..... you're right, there's a few more important things going on that we could do with hearing about.
Interesting if you are sitting on the sofa with two broken legs and the remote for the television is on the other side of the room. Otherwise *click*.
It's really a lightly veiled attempt to weed out the furries by giving them boners before getting to bed. If you got a *****, then I'm sorry.
It's a fact that some people engage in sex with deer - it's probably those people who are more interested in their habits.
personally i have no interest in the mating habits of deer, but i bet they are happy about it
Well you never know when you need to know about deer mating;)
Some people love all that nature business.
Yes some people care about these things. Humans aren't the only living thing on the planet.
I knew it Bloodnock,it,s all in the knees.
its not like they force you to read it

Why do Americans conduct the world's largest mass slaughter of deer?

How so? Please cite your sources for this claim. You can't.Why do Americans conduct the world's largest mass slaughter of deer?
Because the deer population has gotten larger and larger over the years.

And because a lot of people don't enjoy deer poop or their plants being destroyed by the deer, hunting is encouraged.

Don't forget also lyme tick disease---deer carry the ticks. Deer also like to toss themselves in front of cars for some reason. Why do Americans conduct the world's largest mass slaughter of deer?
It appears that you are unhappy with the behavior of hunters. Changing another person's behavior is not easy. It is best to perfect your own behavior and be an example to others.

An interesting fact you probably don't know:

There are more whitetail deer roaming the 48 states today than in 1900.

Why? - because of hunters. Hunters do more for species preservation and wildlife habitat conservation than every other group combined.

I don't expect my views to cause you to change yours, but perhaps you can come to a better understanding of why some cultures, some living here in the USA, are hunters and meat-eaters.
Um, because there are too many deer.

First, deer have been overbreeding, even after epidemics of sickness like Chronic Wasting Disease. There are more deer now than there should naturally be, kind of like rabbits. They have few to no natural predators except the winters (humans, of course, killed off the predators). They live in residential areas and ruin people's gardens.

Second, deer cause a crapload of car accidents, sometimes deadly. If you are a deer who's been hit by a car, you are most definitely going to suffer a painful death. Hunting is simply more humane (perhaps except bow hunting) and saves much in human life and property. We need hunting to keep the deer population from exploding.
Well the area I live in IDOT cleans up a least 1500 a season of the rode where they have been hit by cars. They don't cover but a small area of the interstate. We live in town and it's not uncommon to find a half a dozen in the yard or even turkey any coyote. So the answer would be they are very over populated in many areas. The state keeps control over how many are taken a year so as not to reduce the population to much, but they have to be thinned out.

By the way you shouls see how much corn a deer can eat in a year ! Far more cattle and hogs are killed yearly to feed all the folks in this country as well.
Mass slaughter my a$$!! They should open up the season and thin the bastards out. It has always amazed me that the states claim them as their deer until you hit one on the road then they clam no responsibility for their deer. I say shoot them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it was my animal that wondered into the road and caused an accident I would be held liable and sued for the damage.
To reduce deer overpopulation. Do you live in an area with lots of deer?

The deer hunt should be increased significantly for forest management. The deer eat all the shrubbery and small trees. In the interest of biodiversity and healthy forests, we should reduce the numbers of deer.
Are you referring to hunting? Are you aware that there are still many people in this country that rely on hunting to put meat on the table? Are you aware that without hunting nature will thin the herd anyway?, usually with starvation. Or maybe you like hungry people and starving deer, I don't know.
If you are referring to the southern whitetail you don't know much about deer. If they aren't hunted they overpopulate and become a nuisance. It's true of other game animals also!
When their populations get too high, it has a very negative impact on the land. Plus, they are stupid animals that repeatedly jump in front of moving vehicles.

    Their meat is also tasty.
To save them from starving for one. Deer meat is good to eat. And hunting is a great sport. The first is a fact, the last two are matters of opinion.
Population control, did you ever hit a deer with your car ? It sucks, and nobody wants to see deer starving to death due to overpopulation.
    1) Many people enjoy hunting

    2) The deer population is out of control

    3) There are only certain times of the year where you can hunt legally
Because they taste good and in most parts of the country they are WAY over populated. You can thank the people that killed off all the wolves for that.
Because we have killed off the predators (wolves, bobcats, etc.) and many would starve to death if they weren't allowed to be hunted.
Last time i checked deer are still overpopulated here, so its probably a beneficial thing.
because deer kill more people then any other animal
Yeah their killling people in all their wars but lets all worry about the deer
    Because venison is tasty.
Well, we do have a huge redneck population but I still don't think we hunt more than any other country....
Mostly to piss off stupid peta types.
for sport and meat and trophy and because we can
    They taste good.
because they don't, that would be canada and russia
They breed faster than Bristol Palin.
    well they are white people

that explains a lot og it.

maybe its a way to get out there anger?

I am thinking of buying a .308 Winchester. What does everyone think of it? I will primarily deer hunt with it.?

The .308 is an excellent cartridge for deer.... The .270 is more of a connoisseurs cartridge and the 30-06 is a little too powerful in my opinion... Also avoid 7MM, 25-96 or any cartridge name that ends in mag....

As you can probably guess I like cartridges that are nice and common and also available on every sport-shop shelf in North America.....

Yeah - I hunt but guess what?? -- I do an awful lot of target shooting during the year so the .308 cartridge is perfect... It's available and cheap in bulk.... No other cartridge except for the .223 and 7.62x39M can say that....

I happen to like Remington rifles.... They are accurate and for me have been a pleasure to use.... Consider a Remington SPS chambered in .308....

These last 2 links are geared more towards target shooting but the info is still quite relevant....I am thinking of buying a .308 Winchester. What does everyone think of it? I will primarily deer hunt with it.?
Excellent choice! The .308 Win. is amazingly accurate - more sniper rifles are chambered for this round than any other. It is big enough for any deer that walks, as well as caribou, wild boar, and there have no doubt been a great number of elk sent off to their rewards by a well placed .308. Recoil is mild - less than a .30-06. With 150 or 165 grain bullets you're good to go. If you are recoil sensitive, you might consider the 7mm-08. It's a .308 case necked down to 7mm. It kicks a little less and is a nearly perfect deer round.

I'd be interested to know the make and model of the rifle you are thinking of buying. But as far as a chambering, .308 Win. is ideal.

EDIT: Good choices on rifle makers. I'd suggest you look closely at the Savage, and for the money you save you can put a quality scope on it, and have a gun you can hunt with the rest of your life. I like the Savage because of their Accu-trigger - they have led the way in improved triggers, and theirs is excellent.I am thinking of buying a .308 Winchester. What does everyone think of it? I will primarily deer hunt with it.?
It is a great cartridge and I have killed some nice deer with it but I don't like that it usually goes right clean-through the body, doesn't expand, and leaves an exit hole about the same size as the entrance, thereby making the poor animal run until he bleeds to death. My 30-30 never did that. It always expanded well and anchored the deer stone-cold dead at once, right where he was hit. Put a 4X Power scope on it and you can easily pick-up on a running deer, something that is harder to do with a more powerful scope.

Excellent choice for deer, and some larger animals

Great range, good accuracy, excellent knock-down. Recoil not too bad, and ammo is not prohibitively expensive.
You picked a very good caliber, and brand.* Excellent for Varmints and Deer.*
It is a capable cartridge for deer. But what type of rifle and why a .308 instead of a .270 or 30-30?

    Good all-around cartridge.
A great choice for hunting deer!
well out here thats all we use and yah we put down great big moose with one shot so yeah great choice

What is baby deer meat called?

I have no idea, is it a kitten or a puppy? Whatever, it is not edible. What is baby deer meat called?
It is not illegal to kill a fawn. It is illegal to hunt them. There are many deer raised as livestock in every state.

What is baby deer meat called?
    It's called ';Illegal.';
It's called (illeagal ) in most states that I know . LOL
    This one is the best:

    BAMBIQUE

    I rock!
    yummie
    adult deer is venison

    baby is veal
    Sickening
    venison
    veal
    venison
    vension
Venison. Your not supposed to kill fawns though....
    Murder.
An animal that carries tape worms so cook well , Yuk !
    ';bambi-burger';

    YUM!
It is a fawn not a baby deer. I call it murder, poor little fawn, it is illegal to kill them.
Deer meat is venison. I don't know if there is a specific term for baby deer meat.
    venimin
    baby venison
Venison or Bambi. Take your pick.
Venison. But if you kill a baby, you are gonna be in trouble...

And btw, 'veal' is a baby cow...Not all baby animal meat is automatically veal. You wouldn't say a baby pig is veal..it is just pork. Deer is venison. Period.
    A waste...

...You should wait 'till they're fully grown, there's more meat on them.

What does breaking the pelvic bone on the deer do when you are field dressing a deer?

  • What's with the mouth cover when you are hunting deer?

i saw it in a video.

You might mean the Cough Silencer??? It keep your coughs silent so deer dont hear unnatural noise

Should the buffalo and deer be paid reparations?

Rattling will get a buck's interest any time of the year but obviously best during the rut. It can be over done so but you can draw them in with moderate activity.
You could try it, but I think it would not be productive.* The best way to find out is to do it and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained or lost.*

What is the best deer rifle for 13 year old. peferably low recoil, but has alot knock down power as well.?

i've heard a 243 is pretty good but im not formilur with the recoil. list rifles with low recoil but i would not want to los drop power. best answer gets 10 points. and if you can plzzz list ther range of the gun you have listed. What is the best deer rifle for 13 year old. peferably low recoil, but has alot knock down power as well.?
When I was a kid I had a youth model Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08. Kick wasn't bad, and I nailed a couple deer at ranges %26gt;150 yards. (Note: for your first couple deer you're going to be too excited to notice even the sound of the shot, much less the kick!). Then again, by the time I was 13 I had switched to a full-size 30-30 so my brother could use the 7mm. So maybe (depending on his size), you should just get him a full-size rifle.

That being said, now that we're all grown up, we still use the little 7mm-08 youth model as a nice lightweight carbine, so it's not obsolete just because there's not a kid to shoot it.

My 2 cents: I agree with others that a .243 is just not enough power to be a reliable kill. As an ethical hunter, that's one thing you have to make sure of.

7mm is a fast bullet with a nice flat trajectory. Unless your kid is an amazing sharpshooter it's probably not wise for him to try for anything more than about 200 yards out though. And most calibers (but NOT the aforementioned 30-30) will get you that range no problem. What is the best deer rifle for 13 year old. peferably low recoil, but has alot knock down power as well.?
.243 is good up through large deer, very easy to shoot in most rifles with negligible recoil. I'm teaching 2 new hunters this year and pulled 3 of them out of the case. Compared to everything else I shoot, these things were an absolute pleasure to spend time at the range with. Starting light and getting a larger caliber when he's older is the start to a great hobby, collecting :)

Then I sighted in my .444 and got punched in the head with the scope. Note to all, shoot the heavy stuff first, and then the light stuff

Range for deer with a good bullet should be limited to w/in 300 and 200 would be better. 300 would be pushing things a bit, and a new hunter shouldn't consider shooting that range anyways.

Beyond that I'd stick with .270 and below until he has more trigger time. Heavy recoils on a new shooter lead to very bad habits. Smaller people, women children etc. CAN definitely shoot big calibers, but that's not where you want them to start.

A heavier gun will recoil less, but there is a limit to what I'd expect a 13 year old to be able to actually lug around and safely control.
A 243 is based on the 308 case, and with a proper bullet selection can be a good deer rifle. However, with it's modest bullet weights it isn't the best cartridge for all deer hunting situations. A better alternative would be the 7mm-08, based on the same case as 243 and providing a heavier bullet with more margin of energy for more assured harvesting of deer. My 12 year old can shoot a 243 with 95 grain bullets all afternoon given the chance (40 plus rounds) and has shot my 30-06 with reduced recoil rounds, 20 in 30 minutes or so.The 7mm-08 would be between the 243 and reduced recoil 30-06 for recoil if you were using 140 or 150 grain bullets.

You can expect 2 inch or less groups of 3 shots with any modern bolt action rifle with decent ammo, sometimes much better, and a 243 or 7mm-08 is capable of 300 yard shots or better easily with practice and good optics. Again, I recommend the 7m-08 over the 243 for better mass on target and greater energy, which is what you want. A similar case can be made for the 270, based on a 30-06 case and using a 130 or 140 grain bullet, you will get good velocities and knock down power with slightly less recoil than a 30-06.

I always advocate using a good bonded core bullet in deer hunting for best terminal performance and penetration.

There is no substitute for good shot placement with the right bullet, and the 7mm or 270 is going to trump the 243.
A 243 Win is what I would consider the bare minimum caliber for deer, primarily b/c of the factors of bullet weight %26amp; shot placement. Long range accuracy is where it stands out.

Better choices are the 260 Rem or 7mm-08 Rem. They also have good long range accuracy and recoil only marginally stiffer than the 243. Remember that felt recoil is also affected by the weight, fit %26amp; action of the rifle; a gas-operated rifle generally will have less felt recoil than a bolt action.

    6.5x55 swede

    7mm mauser

any of these are plenty for deer at any reasonable range that you would need, and have very manageable recoil, even for younger and smaller shooters.

Of these my pick would be the 7-08, which is the same case as the .243 but necked up to accept a bigger bullet, and has a bit more knockdown power. These are fairly common, ammo is not hard to find. I know of a lot of people (mostly relation, and a lot of them female and not very big) that have started out with these, have had no problem at all with the recoil, and have never seen any need to upgrade
The gun type and weight can have more to do with recoil than the round fired. A light weight bolt gun in 243 will have more felt recoil than a heavy semi auto in 308. Me and my best friend have older savage 110's in 243, mine has a synthetic stock his is wood and a little heavier. The recoil is noticeably harder with mine than his shooting the same ammo.

13 is a strange age, some 13 year olds are built like grown ups some are still kid sized. Unless you are real small for your age I would suggest you try to shoot some friends guns to see what you like and what you can handle. The first few that come to mind are a 30-30 is you are not going to be shooting over 200 or 250 yards, 243 or 308 with light loads if you are going to be shooting out to 300 or 400 yards.

If you reload or some one who can reload for you a 260 or 7-08 would be worth a look but ammo can be hard to find.

I am going to get some thumbs down for this but will say it any way. If you are a good shot, it is legal in your area, and you don't like the recoil from all the above rounds look into 223 or 22-250. (Keep in mind the keyboard commandos who will try to take my birthday away for saying a 22 cal center fire round will kill a deer will turn around and tell you or any one else that they should hunt Alaskan bear with a 30-06.)

    Good luck.

The .243 is a good choice for most medium sized game. Keep in mind that the weight of the gun itself has a lot to do with how much recoil you feel. Its a pain to haul around a boat anchor of a gun, but the recoil will be lighter if the gun is heavier.

Dont worry too much about recoil, you will learn how to handle your rifle if you practice, and none of the common non-magnum calibers are going to knock you over. I wouldnt start with a .308, .30-06, or 7.62x54 but other than that, something larger like a .270 should be OK too.

I would consider a 20 ga. shotgun with a rifled slug barrel. A slug gun is a great choice for close in deer hunting, plus gives you versitility should you decide to try bird. A good Remington 870 makes a great first shotgun.
The way to get ';big knockdown power'; is to get a semi-auto action, which eats up most of the felt recoil by spreading out the shock pulse in time. Most folks notice that a 308 semi-auto has about the same felt recoil as a 243 bolt action rifle. Both will kill deer, but you want ';knockdown'; for some reason, and the 308 will also kill moose.
I went with a .243 chambered Remington Model Seven CDL for my 13 year old daughter. She dropped a 150lb 8 point buck at over 200yds with a single shot. If you look at the ballistics including fps and ft lbs of energy, a .243 exceeds the standards most people use for deer sized game. For an example, using a Federal factory loaded 100gr Sierra Game King Boat Tail Soft Point at 300 yds the bullet is still going over 2300fps and has over 1200ft lbs of energy. More than enough velocity to fully expand and more than enough energy to get the job of killing the animal done. Plenty of penetration and a large enough hole. Far from just being marginal.
i'll probably get some thumbs down for this...but i'm going to say get a rem 700 in .308 win.

the recoil isn't that bad, and really proper stance/technique goes along way in reducing felt recoil. i've seen 100lb women shoot .375 H%26amp;H mags better than alot of 250lb men, its doesn't matter what age or weight you are but whether you use proper technique and alot of practice.

with a setup like this you probably have 99% of all game in north america covered. as for range its up to you, most rifles can out shoot their shooters.
hmm if you will be target shooting with it before the season then i sugest the .243 for you...but if you are just going to hunt with the gun then maybe a 30/06...you wont feel the guns recoil when your shooting at an animal you zone out and dont hear anything either and the 30/06 aint bad i can shoot it about 15 times before i get flinchy
My dad put me behind a .270 at 13 and i'm small. Its a great caliber he will own his entire life(teach him how to take care of a gun, I have a beautiful tool because my dad taught me). Get him a Remington if you wanna spend 400-600 for a rifle and good scope. Get him a Winchester if you wanna spend 800-1100 for a good rifle and scope. Get him a box of shells and a good shock pad for it, take off the shock pad in a year. I have a great recoil pad on my 7mm Mag that helps tremendously(40$, don't know what its called, got it at *****). A .243 is ok but this is borderline humane with only 1500ft lbs energy at 100yds then 1000fp at 200yds. A .270 will kill a deer as far as he can shoot and it will drop it where it stands. Very ethical. 270 bullets come in a wide variety and are relatively cheap. Make sure you know if he is right or left eye dominant before you buy a right or left handed gun. Tell him good luck. I'll be sitting 30 foot up a oak tree 20yds downwind of a massive white oak this weekend in the heart of the Alabama black belt, with a bow. My first bow hunt. I can barely sleep I'm so excited. Wish me luck. Get the 270! 300$

you want a 243. very good gun. great for deer as well as a varmint gun. i just recently shot a medium sized prarie dog a 264 yards. kind of a lucky shot i guess but my friend has not problem with shooting their heads of a 200 yards. 9 out of 10 he will hit garanteed. not a lot of recoil. 270 will give you blue shoulder and 30-06 has a good knock to it but the bullet is very lazy.
the 243 is a great gun to start a young hunter with.it has plenty of knock down power for deer out to 250 yds or more depending on bullet choice. felt recoil is like a 20 ga shotgun.for the lower grain bullets.all in all its a great deer rifle to start with.
243 Winchester is not the best pick, especially for that age. It's a marginal caliber that needs a lot of discretion in shot selection. Only slightly larger in caliber but hugely ahead in effectiveness would be 260 Remington (in the Remy Model 7, for instance) or 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser (in the Ruger 77). And both are available in compact guns that'll fit a smaller-than-average man.
A 243 is a great gun with less recoil. I have shot over 30 deer with my 243. One big buck at 330 yards with one shot. It walked 20 yards and dropped. 243 cartridges are some of the lower priced ones as well.
You won't be 13 years old forever, get a bit bigger caliber. I recommend a .270. It is a much better deer cartridge.
