deer blood is generally pretty safe if you wash well afterwards. rubber gloves could be good if you are worried. i wouldn't worry. How to i safely handle deer blood?
Deer blood or any blood should always be handled with care. Surgical quality gloves a must. Still wash your hands well with anti-bacterial soap after handling. You may also want to wear one of those clear plastic face shields to avoid spatter. Cover up with a lab coat and you should be fine. Always discard safely or thoroughly sterilize all protective garments and equipment when done.

Common sense and don't rush.
Lab coat, mask, safety goggles, gloves, and do your work in a fume hood. Be careful not to jab yourself with the scalpels or needles you're working with.

That's probably overkill. *shrug* At the very least, wear gloves.
