Why should I not feed deer?

Because they are wild animals, is the shortest answer.

By feeding deer, you are teaching them not to fear humans. Even if you are not around when they eat, your scent is. They will become use to the scent and that can endanger their lives and the lives of people.

If they don't fear humans, they won't know to run from a hunter or to stay away from roads. They are more likly to become someone's tasty dinner or the awful roadkill on the side of the road. Worst case senario, the road kill and the reason a family loses a loved one in a terrible car accident.

Even if these things don't happen, your deer will not be able to tell the difference between the food you leave out and yours and your neighbor's landscaping, which looks like food to them to.

Plus, the food you leave out may not be healthy for them. It may make them sick.

You are better off just leaving them to forge for food on their own... preferably far away from your yard. Why should I not feed deer?
Well everyone has really good answers, and here is another: Once you start feeding wild animals (deer, birds, etc) they come to depend upon you for food, instead of themselves. Then they are not what? Wild animals. What happens to them when you decide to stop feeding them? They will starve. It's best not to do it at all.Why should I not feed deer?
My neighbor feeds deer. Not only is it unsafe for the neighbors during hunting season, but leaving food out for deer means leaving it out for other animals as well. Our whole street found that out when deer-feed and bird seed became the food of choice for a 2 yr old male black bear. It might also be against your state DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) laws.
Well depends where yer feeding them? If it's in your yard.....

and you start feeding them......they'll be used to coming there looking for a snack...but if your not there to feed them...they may just start eatting all your pretty flowers and fruit trees.

Their hooves are razor sharp!

But if your out camping or something.......a scrap of vegetable isn't going to hurt you or them. Just be carefull!

I like feeding deer personally!

We used to by my grandparents giant 8 x 8 inch salt blocks from the feed store for their yard...the deer loved em.

If you are hunting them it is illegal in some states to hunt over bait. If you don't want them flocking to your yard (they can get aggressive and attack people) it wouldn't be a good idea. If they are concentrated in a feeding area diseases are more easily spread. Your neigbors may not appreciate the extra browsing.

If you are in an urban setting deer can be a big problem and feeding them will only make it worse. If you are in the country with a low density deer population feeding them would not be a big problem.
Who says you shouldn't?
there mite b bugs in the food
