savage .270 enough said.I want a deer rifle i need comments about the best calibers and brands of guns under $400?
Standard minimum for deer hunting is the .243 or in metric, the 6mm. Savage has a value rifle listed in their catalog that is called the Stevens 200 and comes in calibers up to .308 and 30-06. Worth checking into. Since you already shoot a 7mm in a .308 version, you have an idea of the softer recoiling rifles-.308 and 30.06 will have a few more pounds of recoil. I've been thinking about the new 7mm's, like a 7mm Magnum. I own a 7mm-08 Savage myself but, its not exactly what I want to hunt with-it's a Model 14, little too pretty to mess up. They say the Stevens 200 is okay but , has a stiff trigger. There are Remingtons in your price range and the Weatherby Vanguard (that's a decent hunting rifle too). Try finding their websites and looking into price ranges.
i seen a used marlin 30-30 with scope and sling today at a pawn shop for 200$ but if u dont like used go to a walmart close to u and have them order u a mossberg 100 atr in 30.06 (if they dont already have it in stock) they are also available in .308 .270 and .243 which are fine cailabers but 30.06 is just my favoright hunting cailiber cause u can use it for anything in north american then get u a nikion prostaff (i know it has staff in it correct me if im wrong) for 150$ this is a great scope! best scope for the money now u should be able to get all this for 400$-425$ oh and u may need scope rings so anouther 25$ so ull have u a great rifle that will last u for ever and a great scope for 400-450$

btw im 13!
im also 14 and i have shot many of the most popular rifle cartridges such as the .30/06, the .30/.30 the .308 and the .243. i have also shot a 12 gauge using slugs. of those, i would get either a .30/06 or a .308 just because of the different ammo weights and their many different uses. a .30.30 is a good gun for deer out to about 100 - 120 yards.

honestly, your gun that u have now is great for deer and would be good for black bear, too. i would keep it if i were u
Look the gun you have got is a good one apparently you have killed a few deer with it. If you want a repeater then you should look at a savage 110 .in either a .30-06 or .270 make sure you don't buy one that was a walmart gun they had some problems with alignment of the holes for the scope mounts. other than that I never saw a Savage 110 that would not shoot
Consider the Mossberg 100-ATR chambered in .270.... These are decent rifles from a well respected manufacturer... The recoil is perfect for a person of your size. Its got a little kick but is not overpowering or painful to shoot.
If you have a great gun then leave it be. If you just ahve to have another one then buy a reputable manufacturer like Winchester, Ruger, Browning, and there are a few others. When I was your age I used a Remington 30-06. It has a little kick but worked well and ammo was plentiful.

Good Luck!
